Boston voters have elected City Councilor Michelle Wu as mayor, the city's first woman and person of color elected

Michelle Wu, whose parents immigrated to the U.S. from Taiwan, broke a 199-year streak of white, male elected city leaders. She moved to Boston from Chicago, and attended Harvard University and Harvard Law School.

As a Boston-based organization, BYT congratulates Mayor-Elect Michelle Wu on this historic win. We look forward to our days ahead, as she prepares to lead our great city.

People of color made history on election night in 2021, bringing diversity to leadership roles in some of America's biggest cities, and in some states as well. Boston, New York, Pittsburgh and Dearborn, Mich., were among the places that a majority of voters embraced minority candidates. At BYT, we will continue to work on our mission, bringing more resources and generating more awareness of supporting minority entrepreneurs.
